THE LAST STAGE, POLISHING YOUR TEXT
Proofreading is the revision of a manuscript by someone different to its author. It normally happens at the final stage of drafting and it provides a fresh pair of eyes for your text.
Proofreading helps detecting minor issues, for example, ensuring that your manuscript contains common and homogenous terms or that it is free from errors, like typos or missing punctuation. Proofreading does not result in a shorter text, or improve its readability — identifying and improving major issues like structure, readability and focus are the result of editing.
In short, proofreading is the polishing stage of your final draft, it is a shorter revision than editing and does not require interaction between the proofreader and the author.
